Servers
Browse and download from Komga, Kavita, Calibre-Web, and other OPDS catalogues, and send your progress back.
Add a server
Go to Settings, then Catalogues, and tap Add. Or open the catalogue browser from the library.
- Name
- The name shown in Lijn. Lijn picks an icon from the name. You can change it.
- Address
- The address of the catalogue. For Komga, Kavita, and Stump, choose the preset and type only the server address. Lijn adds the right path. For another server, type the full address of the OPDS catalogue. If you type only a host name, Lijn tries the usual paths.
- The user name and password for the server, if it asks for them. The password stays in the Keychain on this iPad. It does not sync to other devices.
Tap Test Connection before you save. A Project Gutenberg catalogue is already set up when you first open Lijn.
Browse
The front page of a catalogue shows its sections as cards: Continue Reading, Recent, Series, Authors, Genres, Collections, All Books, and the others the server offers. Open a section and scroll. Lijn loads more as you go.
Lijn keeps the last page it loaded from each address. A catalogue opens at once, and you can look through it without a connection.
When the server offers filters, they appear in a menu in the toolbar. When the server offers search, the search field is in the toolbar.
Download
Tap a book to download it. Downloads continue in the background and survive a restart of the app. A book opens when the whole file has arrived. When a server offers the same book in several formats, Lijn takes CBZ first, then PDF, CBR, and EPUB.
A downloaded book goes into your library like any other, with its cover and details. The series name from the catalogue is kept. A book you already have is not downloaded again.
Progress
When you close a book that came from Komga or Kavita, Lijn sends your page back to that server. This is on by default. Turn it off for one catalogue in its settings.
Connection
A server on your own network can use a plain http address. A server on the internet must use https. Lijn signs in with the user name and password you entered (HTTP Basic). If the server answers that the login is wrong, Lijn says so.
Compatible servers
Lijn is tested with Calibre Content Server, Calibre-Web, Kavita, Komga, and Stump. Any server that speaks OPDS 1.2 should work.
What Lijn does not do yet
- Read a book before the whole file has downloaded.
- Open catalogues in the OPDS 2.0 format. Use the server's OPDS 1.2 address instead.
- Open books with copy protection (DRM).
- Sign in with anything other than a user name and password.
- Download MOBI files from a catalogue. Import them from Files instead.
